Rob Lorenson is a sculptor that works in stainless steel and aluminum. The works are constructed of sturdy, permanent materials that live in contradiction to the impermanent sense of the composition. The pieces are situated as though to freeze a moment in time in which they exist effortlessly in space. Lorenson strives to emphasize the formalist qualities of the work, to create dynamic movement with static, solid objects. The forms have a boldness and exactness that are inspired by martial arts, where grace and precision are practiced until they are effortless. Lorenson received his BFA from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and an MFA from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. Since 1999, the artist has lived & worked in Southeastern Massachusetts. His work has been included in several exhibitions, including Pier Walk in Chicago, the Sarasota Season of Sculpture, and the Convergence International Arts Festival in Providence. Lorenson’s work is included in over 200 public and private collections from small tabletop pieces to 16 foot large scale sculptures.
