Robyn Asquini (b. 1988) creates oil paintings combining the techniques and materials of European masters with contemporary feminist perspectives and subjects. The aim of her work is to create emotionally direct images, focusing on the human form. Her recent paintings integrate abstract brush strokes with realistic rendering of the figure, weaving together both the inner and outer worlds of her subjects. Robyn was born in Montreal, Canada and currently lives and works in Toronto, Canada. She studied illustration at Sheridan College and art and design at Parsons the New School. While working as a commercial artist and art director, she completed the classical drawing and painting program at the Academy of Realist Art and now works full-time as a fine artist. Recently, Robyn received The BoldBrush Award for Abstract (August 2023), was awarded Honourable Mentions from both the Society of Canadian Artists and Federation of Canadian Artists in 2023, was selected as a Finalist in the 2022 Art Renewal Center Salon competition, and received a Certificate of Achievement from the Canadian Portrait Society in 2022 and 2021. In September, she participated in two New York group shows—the Salmagundi Club’s Open New York Figurative Exhibition and The Dacia Gallery 13th Anniversary Group Exhibit. In October, she attended the Pouch Cove Foundation Residency Program.
