Roel Jovellanos is a representational and metamodern artist currently residing in Phoenix, AZ, specializing in acrylic paintings. He launched his professional career in 1997 after earning a BFA in Illustration from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. His work is deeply informed by his diverse creative background, which spans concept and CG art in the video game industry to filmmaking, writing, and music. Inspired by the intellectual approach of "artist-thinkers" like Cezanne, Roel explores the human condition through the use of visual subtext, allegory, and cinematic tropes. His process often involves using multiple panels and dedicated months of work to fully realize a vision, translating complex themes and ideas directly into his finished creations.
