Ron Hicks synthesizes abstraction and realism in oil paintings that explore human connection and emotional resonance. Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1965, Hicks developed his artistic foundation at Columbus College of Art and Design before completing his studies at Colorado Institute of Art. His current work eschews traditional backgrounds in favor of minimalist canvases where gestural brushstrokes merge with realistic portraiture, creating compositions that invite open dialogue with viewers. Hicks approaches each canvas intuitively, without preliminary sketches, allowing emotional and spiritual exploration to guide his process. His sophisticated handling of gray tones establishes atmosphere and mood throughout his paintings. In 2022, his painting "Amber Eve" earned first prize in the RAYMAR Traditional Art Award at the Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize, marking a significant evolution from his early representational style to his current abstract realist approach. Ron Hicks currently resides in Denver, Colorado.
