After earning his degree in Commercial Art in Spokane, Washington, Roy Lowry began his career in Chicago as an illustrator for a national sign company, where his work received national recognition. Returning to Spokane, he discovered watercolor painting and quickly gained notoriety through the annual Western Art Show. His adventurous spirit soon led him north to Alaska, where he backpacked across the state and worked aboard a crab boat out of Dutch Harbor before establishing an art studio in Whittier, preparing for exhibitions in Anchorage and Fairbanks. Following travels through England and Scotland, Roy moved to Hawaii and embarked on a 15-year career as an accomplished textile designer and creative director for a well-known tropical shirt manufacturer. Eventually settling in Ocean Shores, Washington, he returned to his first love—painting in watercolor and pastel. As co-founder of the North Beach Artists Guild and the Gallery of Ocean Shores, Roy has been instrumental in bringing art and art education to his community. Through exhibitions, teaching, and mentorship, he continues to inspire others to explore the joy and creativity of the visual arts.
