Ryan Cobourn’s gestural abstract paintings are based on memories and experiences of interacting with the natural world . The allusions and references remain slightly out of reach. There is a physical, tactile play between the veiling and exposing of forms with creamy, viscous paint, which can feel agitated, tender, and melancholic all at once. Cobourn is represented nation-wide by Ann Connelly Fine Art, Bryant Street Gallery, Carrie Coleman Fine Art, Bee Street, and GUT Galleries. He received his MFA at Indiana University, and has been the recipient of multiple awards and grants including the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant and the Vermont Studio Center Artist Grant. He lives and works in New York City.
