Works by German artist Sabine Campana pay homage to the third dimension. Campana’s pieces come alive in the space between painting and sculpture to create a multidimensional visual experience. Her artwork can often be identified by repurposed materials that combine interesting structures, textures and surfaces. Campana is deeply inspired by the vast variety of designs created by nature. Other touchstones for her work include architectural wonders and cross-cultural experiences in Europe, Asia, America, and North Africa. Her “hanging sculpture” series reflects the culmination of these influences in her work. Over the last two decades, it has become Campana’s mission to give overlooked everyday items new meaning within her work, showcasing their inherent beauty. Campana hopes this series featuring repurposed material will encourage her viewers to be more aware of their daily surroundings and become mindful of the often disposable world we live in. Sabine was born and raised in Berlin, Germany. In her mid-thirties, she moved with her family to Houston, Texas due to their affiliation with NASA. She enrolled in the Glassel School at the Museum of Fine Arts to study collage and assemblages. While living in the Clear Lake area, she joined the advisory board at the Arts Alliance Center, worked as a curator at the Freeman Library, and developed art projects and exhibitions within the community. Her artwork has been exhibited in numerous art galleries and can be seen in both private and public collections in the United States, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, and Italy. Currently, Sabine’s work is represented by Thornwood Gallery in Houston and Santa Fe.
