Samir Sammoun (b. 1952) was raised in Joun, Lebanon, on his family’s 1,000-year-old olive plantation. This quaint Lebanese village perched atop the Chouf Mountain is 40 km south of Beirut. At the age of 13, Sammoun discovered his passion for painting and drawing. At 21 yrs old, Samir immigrated to Canada where he obtained an engineering degree, followed by a master’s degree in telecommunications. Since graduation, he resumed painting in oils and launched a second career as a professional artist.Sammoun stared showing his work at ArtExpo in New York in 1996 to great acclaim. His unique impressionist style recalls the colorful Mediterranean landscape of his childhood and his travels. He uses a rich palette of oil paint colors and works with linen and jute canvas applying a heavy impasto.
