Sarah Vollmann is a Lexington based painter. Her recent works explore the interplay between what is preconceived and what is found. Her process of pouring paint leads in a poetic way to the next finding. She is interested in letting the materials speak for themselves while also investigating their interactions with her own mark making. Luminosities, transparencies, and translucencies are sometimes found and sought in a destructive and regenerative art making process. Sarah studied painting with Emily Mason at Hunter College, and she has a master’s degree in art therapy from Pratt Institute. Her work has been exhibited in New York City at the School of Visual Arts, Artes Gallery, A.I.R. Gallery, the Micro Museum in Brooklyn, and 14 th Street Painters. She was the recipient of two fellowships at The Vermont Studio Center, and a fellowship at the Ora Lerman Soaring Gardens Foundation. She also participated in two artist residency programs at the School of Visual Arts.
