Scott Troxel creates wooden sculptures that draw from the visual language of mid-century modernism, the Atomic Age, and early technological design. His work moves between nostalgia and futurism, referencing forms that feel familiar yet speculative - objects that suggest both past utility and imagined purpose.Working primarily with solid wood, Troxel builds sculptures that emphasize shape, balance, and surface. Natural grain, bold color, and occasional texture coexist within each piece, allowing material and form to remain equally present. Wood’s inherent strength and organic variation play a central role in his practice, carrying subtle traces of time and use that contrast with clean geometry and saturated hues. His Small Pops series distills this approach into compact works with a strong physical presence. Developed in response to the scale and duration of large public commissions, these smaller sculptures allow for speed, experimentation, and variation. Though reduced in size, they maintain visual weight through chunky forms, graphic palettes, and a clear mid-century sensibility.Troxel’s background in industrial design, product development, graphic art, and brand management continues to inform his studio practice. That experience shapes his understanding of form, fabrication, and visual impact - bridging commercial design and fine art without hierarchy. The sculptures reflect this intersection, blending engineered precision with intuitive play. His work has been exhibited widely across the United States and internationally and is held in corporate, hotel, and private collections worldwide. Notable installations include The Hotel del Coronado in San Diego and The Shard in London. Troxel works from his studio and woodshop on the southern coast of New Jersey.Represented by Illumine Gallery. Please inquire for commissions and shipping options.
