Seçil Erel is a London-based British artist of Turkish origin, with studios in Istanbul and London. She develops her production practice through a bidirectional intellectual and aesthetic line established between the two cities. The artist completed her undergraduate and first master’s degree at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Painting; from an early stage, she expanded her academic discipline with an international vision. She is currently continuing her second master’s degree at the Royal College of Art, from which she will graduate in 2027. This process further deepens the relationship she establishes with the contemporary language of painting in her practice. Erel’s production explores existence, consciousness, and the relationship between human beings and the universe through abstract painting. The unique compositions she constructs through colour, layering, and texture invite the viewer not only to a visual experience but also to an intellectual and sensory space. The artist investigates the transitional zones between visible reality and that which has not yet been named on the surface of the painting; she constructs this surface as a space of encounter and awareness. Throughout her international career, she has taken part in numerous group exhibitions, art fairs, symposiums, workshops, and artist residency programs; she has held solo exhibitions. In 2016, an artist’s book was published by IMOGA, Istanbul Museum of Graphic Arts. The decision to move to London is a natural extension of the process of positioning the artist’s production within a broader international context. During this period, she completed the London Creative Network and European Union–supported Artist Business Development programs. Seçil Erel’s practice values the relationship between individual creativity and collective consciousness. Each work establishes multiple fields of resonance across physical, mental, and sensory layers. The artist believes that awareness of creative potential carries transformative power on both individual and social levels. Through Seçil Erel Art Club, which she initiated during the pandemic period, she conducts works that carry artistic production onto a ground of sharing and collective thinking. She believes that art is a powerful tool for exploring infinite possibilities and inspiring meaningful change. Collections Seçil Erel’s works are included in major institutional collections such as Türkiye Ziraat Bankası, Türkiye İş Bankası, Akbank Sanat, Özyeğin, Papko, OMM – Odunpazarı Modern Museum, Arkas, Demsa, and the Sabancı Collection, as well as in family collections such as Summart-Bora and Büyükkuşoğlu. As an artist with studios particularly based in London and Istanbul, Erel has continued her production on an international scale through the institutes, institutions, and individuals she has worked with, primarily in Türkiye and the United Kingdom; in addition to Türkiye and the United Kingdom, her works are included in private collections and various venues in China, the United States of America, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, Egypt, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Portugal, and France.
