SERGIO ARAU, (México City, November 14, 1951) director, and co-writer of the cult film classic "A Day Without a Mexican", legendary pioneer of the Mexican rock scene (Botellita de Jerez and Rockotitlan), coined the term “ARTNACO” to describe his visual work. “Not nouveau, nor deco, but fully naco”, his Mexican street-themed pop art style took the art scene by surprise in 1983. Much like his music’s battle hymn “NACO ES CHIDO” is part of everyday jargon and culture, today “ARTNACO” defines Mexican art.
