Shane Aquârt, is a Jamaican born, now Caymanian artist who signs his art Dready. Dready is graphic fine art with a unique style influenced by Shane’s Caribbean underpinnings, an itinerant life of English boarding school, Canadian high school and US college experiences – it is bright, colourful, whimsical and with a strong visual presence.Shane works in two versions simultaneously within the same unique style, traditional dreadys, which use stick figure characters, and more evolved characters and scenes, each having its purpose. Shane as well as being all those things above is also a Canadian; he went to high school and university in Victoria, BC; where his grandparents had migrated, from Jamaica. And English because his mother was born in Kent.Dready has had the good fortune of being widely collected and displayed: First group show Ritz Cayman oct 2008 - Bacardi Corporation Headquarters Miami, dready original commission of Bermuda Head Offices building 2009 - Premiership football club UK (Portsmouth FC) Children’s Charity Image commission 2009 - solo appearance and promotional tour at football club 2009 - Cayman Islands Freedom of Information Act booklet commission 2009 – Featured artist at the Art at the Governors art show 2009 - Caribbean Canvas Company commission of designs for Tshirts 2010 - several group shows 2010 – Telegraph Travel Supplement 2010 - Jazz FM UK logo and promotion commission with CiDOT Europe 2011 - included into the National Collection of Cayman Islands 2011 - group shows 2012 - Turtle Bay UK restaurants launch, art and promotional appearances 2012 - UK promotional solo tour with Dept of tourism and Turtle Bay restaurants 2013 - National Gallery Cayman Solo show 2013 (a one month show extended to 6 months; longest running show in the NG up to that time) - Round Hill Solo show March 2014 - over 200 original dreadys drawn by end 2013 - National Gallery group show Goya 2014 - 2nd piece in the National collection 2014 - Solo Show Cayman 2014 - Solo Show Kingston, Jamaica, at Island Art Jamaica 2015 - Tidal Shifts group show National Gallery Cayman 2015 – Hilton Galveston Beach Texas sets aside small lobby as a dready gallery 2015 – Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman 10th Anniversary gift of a commissioned dready, 125 prints to key employees and owners - 126 premium rooms in the Secrets Sunsplash Oasis resort in Montego Bay feature dready art August 2016 – sponsored solo show Jan 2017 Liguanea Club, Kingston – included in the book cataloguing of the permanent collection of National Gallery of the Cayman Islands October 2016 - placement in the Lobby hallway of Tryall Club Jamaica Nov 2016 - 76 seaside rooms Kimpton Seafire, plus lobby placement and 7 pieces around the pulblic areas dec 2016 - 7 page article in Maco-Caribbean Living Jan 2017 – Interview and article with Architects and Artisans Feb 2017 – Skies Magazine March 2017 – Interview with TWI hippies Caribbean blog April 2017 – featured with Kimpton Hotel in Aishti magazine Lebanon and Toronto Globe and Mail’s Globe Style April and May 2017 – sponsored group show May 2017 oxo tower London – January 2018 placement of 8 pieces in the Wellington National Golf Club, Palm Beach – January 2018 the official Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman Cayman Cookout image, of the 3 chef’s Anthony Bourdain, Jose Andres, Eric Ripert (this art eventually makes the New York Times print and online edition) - February 2018 feature article in Ocean Home Magazine (USA) – February 2018 specific mention in Readers Digest Canada article – March 2018 Dready Bookmarks chosen for Kimpton VIP gifts – April 2018 official art chosen for T&L conference Cayman - May 2018 feature Camana Bay Times – Ongoing 2018 bookmarks given away by Burr and Co Edinburgh a part of IHG group - OCTOBER 2018 Picture This opens dedicated Dready Gallery - December 2018 official art for Global Furniture Getaway – December 2018 articles in Architects and Artisans, Inside Out and Camana Bay Times – December 2019 christmas cards designed for the IHG owned Burr and Co in Edinburgh – Jan 2019 two 40 foot dready murals decorate the 4th and 5th floors, and art for all board rooms and the signature lobby piece, for KPMG Cayman’s new headquarters building - Feb 2019 dready chosen to educate guests on recycling collection and disposal for KAABOO/Virgin Music Fest cayman’s inaugural concert – Feb 2019 the Cayman Islands government and National Gallery buy Moko Jumbies as a culturally significant piece of art (this makes 4 dreadys in the national permanent collection) - April 2019 Moko Jumbies is in the first Cayman Biennial – June 2019 Dready art chosen to decorate the new cayman airport’s great hall, as part of the Biennial programme (16 seven foot by four foot panels of an image called Things that exist only in my fading memory) Prince Charles made a speech, before cutting the ribbon, under the art - May 2019 dready bookmarks are part of a curated suite at the Kimpton Seafire – May 2019 dready chosen to draw guest amenity art for the Ritz-Carlton ultra exclusive suite 7 south – October 2019 dready art becomes (best selling) merchandise in the National Gallery shop - April 2020 Dready art chosen for cayman islands sponsorship of Aston Martin GB racing and Porsche GB racing – July 2020 group show, Maritime Heritage – permanent collection space at the National Gallery ‘webster line boats – 3 pieces’.
