Shelah Horvitz was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, USA, into an artistic family and started training as a child. She holds an MFA in Painting from the University of Texas at San Antonio, a BA in English Literature from Brown University, and a BS in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts/Dartmouth. She has studied privately with Steven Bauman and Will St. John and taken online workshops with a score of atelier-trained artists. She received the Gold Medal at the 2024 New England Regional Juried Exhibition at the Guild of Boston Artists. Her paintings have been finalists in three different Art Renewal Center international competitions, and were exhibited at MEAM in Barcelona, Spain for the 2021 ModPortrait competition. She has received the Gold Medal from the Guild of Boston Artists, as well as Merit Awards from the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society. One of her paintings went to the moon in the Lunar Codex. From 2020–2024, Shelah was represented by the gallery Stone Sparrow NYC. Her paintings search for the sublime and the uncanny in the ordinary.
