Kasamatsu Shiro (1898-1991) was a prominent Japanese woodblock print artist who became one of the leading figures in the shin-hanga movement. Born in Tokyo, he initially trained as a Western-style painter before transitioning to traditional woodblock printing under the guidance of master printer Watanabe Shōzaburō. Kasamatsu's work is characterized by serene landscapes, intimate scenes of daily life, and masterful depictions of light and atmosphere. He continued producing exceptional work well into his eighties, leaving behind a legacy of approximately 180 prints.
