Born in 1965 in the Netherlands, Simon Balyon grew up in an artistic environment and developed a passion for painting at an early age. He is the youngest of seven children, some of whom are highly acclaimed artists and graphic designers. Like his siblings and mentors, Balyon’s love and devotion for nature is evident in his work. Influenced by the schools of impressionism and romanticism, Balyon’s mastery is most evident in his portrayals of the different seasons in the Dutch countryside. Whether painting in his studio or en plein air, his compositions reflect the beauty of nature from the crisp winter to budding spring. His landscapes are very balanced in composition, which invokes a tranquil and luminous quality. While living and working in the Netherlands, Balyon’s work is represented in galleries in the United States, Canada, and throughout Europe. Balyon grew up studying the Dutch masters and The Hague School. His style is also greatly influenced by the Impressionist and Romantic schools. He has studied and worked with many prominent artists, including Hans van Moerkerken, Kees Roosenboom and his brothers Andre Balyon and Nanne Balyon. In March 2009, Balyon began working on a two-year mega painting featuring the famous Blue Trams of the Netherlands on the route Leiden-Haarlem. The gigantic work is titled “Panorama Tulipland” and features the trams riding through the Tulip Region. It is painted on a single piece of handmade canvas measuring 30 meters wide and 4 meters tall.
