Born and raised near Berne, Switzerland, Simone Christen has always had a creative streak. Over time, this passion evolved into a dedicated artistic journey rooted in curiosity, experimentation, and introspection. Now based in rural New Jersey, she paints from her studio on a small horse farm, surrounded by nature that inspires her practice. Simone’s work is abstract and non-representational, often characterized by a limited palette and a sense of restraint. Through an intuitive approach, she explores the essence of form, color, and material—pushing the boundaries of how little is needed to create meaning. She seeks balance without losing tension, and reduction without becoming trivial, guided by a fascination with universal principles like rhythm, proportion, and structure. Influenced by modern art, nature, and an inner drive for authentic expression, she works primarily with liquid media (ink, watercolor, or diluted acrylic) on paper, natural cotton, or linen canvas. Her process is experimental and responsive, allowing for coincidence and surprise to shape the outcome. Her paintings are quiet meditations on the beauty and simplicity of life. They offer viewers a sense of calm and grounding, an invitation to pause, reflect, and connect on a deeper level.
