Soh Boon Kiong is a Malaysian contemporary artist whose work explores the poetic interplay of rhythm, gesture, and colour. A masterful colourist, he creates atmospheric paintings that harmonize Eastern philosophies with Western painterly techniques. His compositions evoke subtle emotional states, often described as visual music—layered, meditative, and deeply immersive. Educated at the Central Academy of Art in Kuala Lumpur and the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Soh has developed a unique aesthetic rooted in both Eastern calligraphy and European abstraction. Since 1998, he has lived and worked between Kuala Lumpur and Amagasaki, Japan, which further informs his cross-cultural practice. Soh’s work has been widely exhibited in Malaysia, Taiwan, Lebanon, Mauritius, Russia, and France. Notably, he has held solo exhibitions at Askeri Gallery in Moscow, the Alliance Française in Kuala Lumpur, and the Institut Français de Maurice. He has also participated in international platforms such as Beirut Art Fair and Formosa Art Show in Taipei. In addition to his gallery presence, Soh has been commissioned to produce large-scale works for respected institutions and architectural spaces. These include public art projects for the University of Malaya, the French Embassy, EcoWorld Gallery, and various private collectors in Malaysia and Japan. His ability to translate his vision across both intimate and monumental formats reflects the trust placed in his practice by curators, collectors, and institutions alike. With a refined and evolving body of work, Soh Boon Kiong stands as a compelling figure in Southeast Asian contemporary art—offering collectors access to a practice that is both spiritually grounded and intellectually rich.
