STATEMENTI use digital camera sensors to record the energetic fingerprint of our universe to explore the overlapping intersections of art, science, and spirituality. A camera is designed to record visible light; however, a digital sensor only sees energy, which I exploit to force it to record much more energy than we can see. My works, which I call Metagraphs, are not mere recordings of visible light. They are vibrant manifestations of the resonant universe we inhabit. I transform the artifacts resulting from digital noise into a new visual experience, a visual kaleidoscope of color and texture. This abstracts the image and reveals aspects of reality we do not see, metaphorically and literally. The image is transformed into a hyper-vision that transcends the boundaries of normal perception.BIOGRAPHYI grew up in the arts. My parents were artists and opened the first contemporary art gallery in Santa Fe, NM. My early memories were of my parents in their studios and of Hill’s Gallery. The mysterious objects that pervaded the gallery intrigued me. Looking at those artworks felt like observing some secret alchemical language that I wanted to learn because it seemed this language could translate both the physical and immaterial. In college I wanted to major in art but switched to international affairs when my artist parents urged me to do something “practical.” Afterward he built earthen and straw bale homes and co-founded Zen Stone Lighting, a lighting design company, with my wife, a former paper artist from Brazil. After an intense medical crisis, I dedicated myself to pursuing art full time. I earned an MFA in Photographic Arts at Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California, and have been working full time as an artist still seeking to decipher that alchemical language. I divide my artistic practice between working with contemporary digital imaging technology to createl Metagraphs and using art as a form of activism through creating hard hitting social justice art installations with strong presence
