Sophie Adair is a British painter based in France who is drawn to the quiet power of women and the mythic pull of the natural world. Influenced by the Pre-Raphaelite tradition, folklore, and stories of strong women, her work showcases stormy shores and wintered forests where landscape and emotion become inseparable. Her current body of work centres on women experiencing the freedom of solitude in the wilderness, free from their everyday lives and responsibilities they are still and able to just be. Through rich oils and a muted, atmospheric palette Sophie creates paintings that feel both intimate and timeless, honouring feminine strength as something elemental, cyclical, and quietly defiant. As a teenager Sophie left her hometown of Preston, UK to move to Paris, it was there that she first picked up a paintbrush and fell in love with creating. Since she began painting in 2018 Adair’s work has been shown in shows in the UK and France. She is currently preparing for her first Northern American solo show.
