About the Artist: Sally is still intrigued with the color and light of the impressionists but has added a new dimension to her art after completing her MFA in drawing and painting at East Carolina in May 2013. Sally has kept her impressionistic style but it is now often enhanced with the addition of mixed media and sometimes becomes abstracted. She has been working on a “Tree Series” and calls the forest her “sanctuary.” As a child, Sally used to climb up into her favorite tree near their family’s mountain home and escape from the world and find solace in nature. “I learned at an early age to put my feelings and emotions in a painting to create an atmosphere of a particular time and place.”Sally has been teaching figure drawing and painting survey at East Carolina and this fall has been teaching at painting and art appreciation at Craven Community College in New Bern. Sally completed her BFA in Illustration and a Standard Teaching Credential K-12 from California State University, Long Beach, California and then studied at the University of Wales in Caerleon, Wales.
