Star Mortezavi is a Persian painter and graphic designer based in South Florida. From her earliest years in Tehran, she was captivated by color, texture, and the quiet language of visual rhythm. After earning her degree in art and graphic design from the University of Tehran, she moved to Los Angeles to expand her creative path, working as an art director and artist in advertising before ultimately dedicating herself fully to painting. Her relocation to South Florida in 2019 marked a turning point, bringing her closer to the lush coastal landscapes that now inform her work.Nature is at the center of Star’s artistic practice. Her paintings reflect the fluidity, calm, and transformation found in the natural world, translating its patterns into abstract compositions layered with nuance and emotion. Through color, texture, and movement, she distills her observations into visual meditations that evoke serenity and depth. At Drew Marc Gallery, two distinct yet connected series reveal the duality of Star’s artistic voice. Her minimalist resin-coated works explore purity and restraint, with smooth reflective surfaces that shimmer with quiet sophistication and capture the stillness of sky and horizon. In contrast, her mixed-media “water series” combines acrylic paint and layered fabrics to create immersive seascapes alive with motion and texture. These works feel tactile and organic, balancing abstraction with the rhythm of waves and the gentle pull of the tide.Together, the two series illustrate Star’s fascination with both the simplicity and complexity of nature. One is serene and architectural, the other expressive and fluid. Each painting carries her signature harmony, inviting collectors to experience stillness, movement, and reflection within the same breath. Artist StatementMy work is an ongoing conversation with nature, with the way light shifts on water, the softness of air, and the texture of the earth. Every piece begins as a feeling rather than a plan. I layer paint, resin, and fabric until the surface starts to breathe, until something familiar yet unseen begins to appear. The minimalist pieces are about calm, a place for the eye to rest and reflect. Their resin surfaces are smooth and luminous, like still water holding a secret. The mixed-media series speaks differently. It carries rhythm, depth, and movement through fabric and paint, like waves that rise and fall with emotion. For me, both are expressions of balance. I want my work to remind people of the beauty in small moments and how nature teaches us to be both strong and soft, still and changing.
