Steve Bickis paints Key West with the knowing perspective of a true insider. His work is grounded in the island's distinctive character and community, drawing inspiration from its people, historic architecture, and natural light. In his regionalist-style paintings, he captures familiar everyday scenes and landmarks – Banyan trees, conch houses, bicycles and street scenes – rendered with a clear and honest eye that reflects the beauty and reality of Key West life. Bickis’ observational style often echoes the interplay of light and shadow found in Winslow Homer's work, bringing the island's most recognizable subjects to life. Operating from his studio at the historic Suzie dePoo compound on Dey Street, a long-standing hub for local artists, Bickis regularly exhibits his work at the Key West Collective. He is an active participant in the island’s art community, welcoming visitors and contributing to local exhibitions and tours.
