Sue Cortese is a quilt artist who lives in Holland, Michigan. Her medium is the quilt form, her process starts with white fabric. She has been creating sewn compositions with her hand dyed fabric and quilting them since 1995. The combination of layers, pattern, and texture add to the work, keep her exploring. From start to finish, her work incorporates the many techniques she has learned over the years: dyeing and printing her own fabric, piecing and appliqué, machine and hand quilting, and various finishes. Recently adding shibori manipulated, indigo dyed fabrics. Sue has also started working in paper and mixed media collage. Her work has been displayed in quilt shows and art museums around the country. She teaches various dyeing and quilting techniques. Sue is an active member of the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA), as well as a Certified Quilt Judge through NACQJ.
