Sue Rollins (b. 1960, Hollywood, FL) is a painter and printmaker based in Guilford, Connecticut, whose layered landscapes merge observation with memory, typography with terrain. Her work navigates the threshold between the interior and exterior landscape—real and imagined, literal and psychological—drawing on a background in graphic design to incorporate text, symbols, and fragments of ephemera into compositions that function as both visual fields and narrative constructions. Rollins' practice is informed by a dual sensibility: the designer's attention to structure and surface, and the painter's commitment to gesture and atmosphere. Her canvases are built through processes of layering, reworking, and refining—an approach that mirrors her subject matter's engagement with impermanence, memory, and the act of looking closely. Recent travels to Iceland and Italy have sparked new bodies of work that investigate the beauty and diversity of the earth, exploring visible and invisible connections within landscape as a site of both material presence and metaphorical resonance. Her solo and two-person exhibitions include Land Water Sky at Keyes Gallery, Willoughby Wallace Library, Stony Creek, Connecticut, and Altered Landscapes at City Gallery, New Haven. Her work has been featured in group exhibitions at the New Britain Museum of American Art (Nor'easter, 2025), Mattatuck Museum (Mixmaster, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2025, 2026), Viridian Gallery, New York (Director's Choice), Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, Santa Ana, California (How is the Weather?), and the Faber Birren National Color Show (2025), among others. She has participated in the 74th and 75th A-1 Exhibit at Silvermine Gallery in New Canaan and Visionary Art Collective's She Carries the Sky. Rollins is an affiliate of Viridian Artists in New York, a member of the Silvermine Guild of Artists, and an elected member of Connecticut Women Artists. She received a BFA from the University of Florida, Gainesville, where she studied with abstract expressionist Hiram Williams and printmaker Ken Kerslake. She lives and works in Guilford, Connecticut.
