ARTIST STATEMENT Although I have called Charleston home for many years, I am still attached to my roots in Connecticut. I have studied with numerous community artists as well as at The College of Charleston. Mentored and deeply influenced by William Halsey, I was encouraged to develop a free and creative statement, without fear of failure! Numerous courses at The Art Students League of New York have broadened my awareness and encouraged me to explore the multitude of approaches available to an expressive artist. Now that we have discussed my background, let’s talk about today.Living in a post-Covid world is different! For me, it is a new chapter in every way. Change is the catalyst for growth, and it often means exploring the unfamiliar. The very word “unfamiliar” takes us out of our comfort range … moves us closer to the edge, where the likelihood of failure looms large. That said, I have always embraced the unexpected. When an unintended mark appears on my paper or canvas, it sparks my attention. I step back and proceed to critically analyze the significance of this mark that just appeared? Do I amplify it and move in a different direction than I had planned or do I simply rub it out and proceed as expected? This is part of the creative process, the problem-solving part, activates my brain and makes all those great hormones flow. This is what drives me back to my studio at Redux to intuitively create the art that I hope is meaningful to you as well as to me.Yes, it is clearly a new chapter with an unchartered journey. Please join me as I embrace the unexpected along the way.
