Susu Meyer (American, b. 1954) Susu Meyer was born in 1954 in Houston, Texas. Meyer earned her B.F.A. at the University of Texas at Austin in 1977. She paints large scale Texas landscapes and the rivers of Texas which she has exhibited at galleries throughout Texas since 2002. Meyer hopes her viewers have a personal experience with her work and feel as though they are present in her landscapes. Artist StatementI came about printmaking through the back door. I’ve been a landscape painter forever, but about 20 years ago, a painter I admired recommended making monotypes. He felt it would benefit my practice. Once I kind of got the hang of the process, I started with the landscape. I made a LOT of monotypes focusing on that. However, as time marched on, I became more intrigued with doing something that I’d most likely never paint. I just started to experiment… and have become sort of addicted to the element of surprise. Right now I’m obsessed with torn paper and plastic. I honestly have no idea where this is all going, but will continue on until something else comes into view. I realize now that my monotypes and mono prints do indeed have a connection to the landscape. They are rooted in movement and light, and also the idea of fleeting moments in time. I really love the process as much as a possible successful result. Biographical and Career Highlights 1954 Born, Houston, Texas 1977 BFA, University of Texas at Austin 2004 Residency Virginia Creative Center for the Arts 2009 Art With Heart featured artist, San Jose Clinic Selected Solo & Two-Person Exhibitions 2021 Contemporary Texas Landscapes, Foltz Fine Art, Houston, TX 2018 Jack Meier Gallery, Houston, TX2016 Jack Meier Gallery, Houston, TX2008 Harris Gallery, Houston, TX2007 El Progresso Memorial Library, Uvalde, TX Texas Rivers, Davis Gallery, Austin, TX2005 Secret Spaces, Sacred Places, Buchanan Gallery, Galveston, TX2004 Texas Rivers, Davis Gallery, Austin, TX2003 Visual Translations, Buchanan Gallery, Galveston, TX Selected Group Exhibitions 2020 Of Nature, Slate Gray Gallery, Kerrville, TXTexas Aesthetic 2020, Foltz Fine Art, Houston, TX2019 Texas Aesthetic XIV, Foltz Fine Art, Houston, TX State of Contrast, curated by Kinzelman Art Consulting and Foltz Fine Art, Bankof America, Houston, TX Storied Lands, Foltz Fine Art, Houston, TX2018 Texas Aesthetic XIII: 30 Contemporary Artists Redefining Texas Art, Foltz Gallery, Houston, TX 2013 No Place Like Home, Davis Gallery, Austin, TX2012 Still Life Group Show, Harris Gallery, Houston, TX Holiday Group Show, Davis Gallery, Austin, TX 2011 Group Show, Harris Gallery, Houston, TX Eleventh Annual Summer Group Show, Davis Gallery, Austin, TX2010 Group Show, Harris Gallery, Houston, TX Group Show, Davis Gallery, Austin, TX2009 Group Show, Davis Gallery, Austin, TX Group Show, Harris Gallery, Houston, TX Ladybird Wildflower Gala, Austin, TX 2008 Ladybird Wildflower Gala, Austin, TX 2007 Ladybird Wildflower Gala, Austin, TX 2006 Cool Respite, Williams Tower, Houston, TX2005 At the Water's Edge, Austin Museum of Art-Laguna Gloria, Austin, TX2003 Group Show, Buchanan Gallery, Galveston, TX2002 Group Show, Davis Gallery, Austin, TX 2002 New Talent, Buchanan Gallery, Galveston, TX Selected Public Collections · Baker Hughes · Chevron · Clark, Thomas and Winters LLP · Colliers International · EOG Resources · EPCO · Gilcrest and Jenkins · Hester Capital, LLC · Houston Country Club, Houston, TX· MC Management and Development · McAlister Real Estate · Memorial Hermann Hospital, Houston, TX· Riverstone LLP· Scott, Douglass and McConnico, LLP, Austin, TX· T.
