Taly Cohen (b. 1978) is a contemporary artist based in São Paulo, Brazil, whose practice moves fluidly between painting and sculpture. Her work is driven by a reflection on life, memory, and the human condition, drawing deeply from her ancestral history—particularly the experiences of her grandparents, Holocaust survivors who rebuilt their lives after World War II. This legacy of survival and reconstruction is a central thread throughout her artistic research.Urban life is a recurring theme in Cohen’s work, informing compositions defined by vibrant color, lysergic forms, and dynamic rhythm. These expressive elements are carefully balanced with minimalist structures, creating a visual language that feels emotionally charged yet formally resolved. Her practice has been developed through sustained studio work and exhibitions, and her work has been exhibited in private collections and gallery contexts.Working across paintings and sculptural wall pieces—often constructed from painted canvas cut and mounted onto wood—Cohen expands the traditional boundaries of painting into physical space. Her ongoing Janelas (“Windows”) series reflects her interest in perception, transition, and the relationship between interior and exterior worlds. Through her practice, Cohen transforms personal and collective history into a contemporary visual vocabulary, offering works that combine strong visual impact with narrative depth and cultural resonance.
