Terry Bailey, R.S.M.A. - (b. 1941) Terry Bailey was born in Manchester in 1941. He gained a place at Manchester College of Art and then pursued a career in Advertising as an illustrator, working freelance for many agencies in London and Manchester. Terry moved to the Westcountry in 1970 to concentrate on his love for fine art and painting. His interest in sailing and boating resulted in a shift towards Marine subjects. In 2001, Terry was chosen to paint the Trophy prizes for the first, second and third places of the J Class Round, the Island race of the Americas Cup Jubilee, which took place in Cowes in August of 2001. These paintings were shown at the Royal Yacht Squadron Cowes during the
Jubilee. In early 2011, Terry was chosen by the Federation of British Artists to exhibit at the Mall Galleries in London to commemorate their 50 year anniversary exhibition, 'PURE GOLD.' Terry Bailey is best known for his paintings of yachting scenes, both contemporary and historical. He has won many awards and his work has appeared in several maritime magazines. In these, particular attention has been drawn to his mastery of detail and his ability to portray a sense of action and movement, within truly convincing seascapes. In addition to this accuracy, his clever use of light and colour helps to bring the scenes to life and make the paintings truly beautiful. Terry lives just a few miles from St. Mawes at St. Just in Roseland, Cornwall.
