Tim was born and raised in the small rural town of Yellow Springs, Ohio. After high school he fled the small town life and graduated from the prestigious Cooper Union School of Art in New York City in 1984, where his focus was graphic design. He travel to Switzerland and all around Europe for five months until returning to New York only when his money ran out. For the next 8 years Tim worked at several design firms in New York City before moving to San Francisco in 1992. Throughout his design career, Horn has always been in pursuit of different ways to express his aesthetic, from portrait photography and furniture-making to creating clocks and cabinets from salvaged materials. It was only later when Horn found his ultimate medium of expression: oil painting. He eventually gave up design and became a full-time painter in 2006. Reflecting on nostalgic Americana - with subjects like the classic cars of the 50s and 60s, working farms, or a family day at the beach - Horn’s paintings are crisp clean canvasses with a strong emphasis on light and shadow. Tim Horn has won numerous awards for his work including Artists Choice Award in Sonoma Plein Air (2007). Three of his paintings received awards at the Raymar Art Contest in 2013 and 2014. He won first place in the Quick Draw event at Weekend in the West in Evergreen, Colorado in 2013 and recieved the Artists Choice Award for his entry in the Urban Beauty show at Randy Higbee Gallery in 2014. In 2014 he was invited to participate in the nationally recognized “Door County Plein Air Festival” in Wisconsin. Tim’s work has been featured in numerous publications, including most recently a feature article in Southwest Art in June 2012 with one of his paintings on the cover. He also has a feature article in the December/January issue of International Artist magazine.
