Todd M. West is a contemporary abstract artist from Phoenix. He grew up drawing and was inspired to begin painting in college after a professor encouraged him to pursue the medium, which he had never tried before. He specializes in creating dynamic pieces using a diverse range of paints, including acrylic, oil, latex, and lacquer. His work is a balance between conscious control and unconscious chaos, where he constructs and dismantles imagery in a continuous, almost archaeological process. This exploration allows the idea to evolve directly alongside the work itself. Drawing inspiration from major artists such as Anselm Kiefer, Gerhard Richter, Frank Auerbach, and William Turner, Todd translates this spontaneous process into his finished artistic creations.
