Tony Pro (b. 1973) is a professional fine artist known for his narrative realism and deep connection to Western art. Born and raised in Northridge, California, he was profoundly influenced by his father, Julio Pro (1929–2013), a celebrated Southwest wildlife painter and Western Art collector, and his brother, Greg Pro (b. 1963), an accomplished illustrator. Tony earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design from California State University, Northridge, and refined his drawing skills under the guidance of the late Glen Orbik (1963–2015), a master illustrator at the California Art Institute. His academic training instilled in him a strong foundation in figure drawing, discipline, and composition—elements that continue to define his work. Tony’s passion for the Old West was shaped by his parents’ avid collecting of Western art and Native American artifacts in the 1980s. Childhood travels across the country to major Western Art shows and artists’ studios deeply influenced his artistic sensibilities. This exposure, combined with mentorship from renowned artists like Richard Schmid (1934–2021), helped him refine his technique and vision. Tony’s work has received numerous accolades, including the Best in Show Award at the 14th Annual Oil Painters of America Show (2005) and multiple finalist honors at the Portrait Society of America Show. His painting "Last Train Home" earned First Place for Best Painting at the Portrait Society of America International Competition in 2014. He is a Signature Member of the California Art Club. Tony’s recent body of work reflects a continued evolution of style, blending the influence of Maynard Dixon, the Taos Six, and his own expressive realism. His latest paintings explore the cultural richness of Southwestern Indigenous tribes, particularly the Red Willow (Taos Pueblo), Diné (Navajo), and Hopi peoples. Inspired by extensive time spent in Santa Fe and Taos, his work honors the landscapes, traditions, and people of the region with authenticity and deep respect. Tony resides in San Antonio, Texas, with his wife Elizabeth and their four children.
