Raised in southern Alberta on a farm, artist Tracey Britton’s early experiences connected her to a pioneering spirit of the West where she grew up on the back of a horse, was taught to respect and love animals, and was a part of the family operations of raising cattle. In her recent works, her focus has been wild horses of Canada & the United States. She portrays these wild, weather beaten, resilient, intelligent animals and how they survive in the wild through strength and fortitude. Braving extreme temperatures in the land and surviving harsh conditions, they are lliving symbols of the West. She wants to raise awareness of the challenges these animals face everyday, and to change people's perceptions of the wild mustangs, and to give back to the organizations that are on the ground and fighting everyday so these animals can remain where they belong. WILD AND FREE. When she was 14, her family moved to Holland, where she had the opportunity to see many works created by famous artists hanging on the walls in museums throughout the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. It was this immersion in the arts that made her realize with heart and soul that she wanted to be an artist. When she returned to Canada, she attended the Alberta College of Art and studied Drawing. Britton’s works have been included in juried shows and exhibitions throughout Alberta, BC, and Saskatchewan and her work is held in private and corporate collections throughout Canada. She is actively involved in the Assiniboia Arts Council.
