Artist Statement ~ For me, it's all about light. Not the representation of light but the engagement with light. For this reason, I use paints that are purposefully designed and developed to interact with light in very conspicuous ways. From a physics standpoint, light can be expressed as both a wave and a particle. Philosophically, the term 'Light' is representative of knowledge and/or revelation. Furthermore, from a spiritual pov, light is often extrapolated as equivalent to Love. All of these attributes of light my paintings endeavour to engage. With each painting, I seek to invite light to come and play within my canvas while also inviting observation of this very phenomena. Just as I invite the observer to discover meaning in the colors, shading and interplay with light itself. The observer has many choices once presented with my work. One is to watch the light bounce around and create what appears to be an illusion of depth within the two dimensional surface of the canvas. Another would be to join the conversation by entertaining what light might be attempting to communicate and share with those who have eyes to see and the heart to hear.
