Maykel Linares is a Cuban draughtsman and painter whose work elegantly explores memory, identity, and the journey of the modern individual. Graduating from the Fine Arts School Oscar Fernández Morera in Trinidad, Cuba, in 2000, Linares has developed a distinctive visual language rooted in drawing and painting, enriched by an international perspective. His compositions often evoke cinematic stillness and the surreal, drawing on the legacy of Magritte, De Chirico and other figurative-surreal influences, yet firmly grounded in the emotional and cultural reality of Latin America. Linares’ work has been exhibited in Finland, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Russia, Singapore, Spain and other international venues including solo and group shows. His pieces are represented in major collections such as the Pilar Citoler Collection and Fundación Caja Sol in Spain. He lives and works between Havana and Madrid, continuing to investigate the dynamics of displacement, time, and visual memory through layered drawing and painting.
