Vasily Pavlovich Borisenkov was born in 1924 in Pskov, a suburb of the village Mikhailovs-Pogost, 230 miles from St. Petersburg. From 1949-54, Vasily attended the St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts, and credits his hometown as a great inspiration to him. His father was a merchant and farmer who died in WWII. Borisenkov was a lover of nature, and says that the outdoors represents "peace on earth," one reason why he has become so skilled in painting landscapes. He often traveled to Siverskaya, a community in a forested area where artists gather. There you can "touch nature and go outside to recognize yourself in nature." Borisenkov emphasizes that the greatest treasure is nature. His plein air works give testimony to this ideal. Borisenkov also paints such sights as the Black Sea, the Baltic republics and the Caucasus Mountains, his favorite locale. Experimenting, even on rainy days, Vasily likes to capture working areas, such as shipyards, in addition to landscapes. Borisenkov was a participant in a number of All-Union and regional exhibitions as well as exhibitions of WWII veterans. His works are now in museum and private collections in Russia, Australia, France, Finland, and the United States. Overland Gallery's selection of Borisenkov's works covers more than 20 years and many subjects.
