Victor Vasarely (Hungarian-French, 1906-1997) Pioneer of the kinetic art movement and father of Op Art, Victor Vasarely’s works had a deep impact on popular culture during the 60s and 70s, influencing everything from architecture to fashion. Optical images from the time and the Bauhaus movement had a deep impact on architecture among other fields. Vasarely focused on the potential of the 2D surface, variations in shape sizes and color as well as visual movement. In his lifetime, Vasarely collaborated with architects to design the Vasarely Foundation in Aix-en-Provence in France. Vasarely’s work is included in the collections of the Tate Gallery, London; the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, Spain; the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC as well as his own museum in Aix-en-Provence, France among others.
