He has spent time in the desert southwest, the Pacific Northwest, and visiting the California Redwoods. His paintings from these places express how they feel to him. They exhibit a sense of wonder and quiet concentration rather than precise details of a specific known place. There is a deep nuance in how he lays down transparent colors with horizontal marks, like sedimentary layers that allude to the passing of time.
