Will Klemm is a celebrated Austin area artist with a career spanning 30 years. His primary investigation is light with a deep discipline of looking. He reveals a sense of enchantment in his oil paintings and pastels. Tongue in cheek, he refers to himself as the set designer and lighting director of his paintings. He has spent time in the desert southwest, the Pacific Northwest, and visiting the California Redwoods. His paintings from these places express how they feel to him. They exhibit a sense of wonder and quiet concentration rather than precise details of a specific known place. There is a deep nuance in how he lays down transparent colors with horizontal marks, like sedimentary layers that allude to the passing of time. The quiet complexity of these create an unexpected, pixelated visual effect that elevates the conversation with light. Klemm’s work has shown nationally since 1993 and is a veteran of over forty one man exhibitions, including multiple shows in New York, Boston, Santa Fe, Provincetown, Austin, Nashville, Houston, and San Francisco. A master in both pastel and oil, his work is in museums, and in corporate and private collections including at The Contemporary Austin.
