Yorgos Kypris is a Cypriot-born sculptor and glass artist based in Athens and Santorini, Greece. He studied painting at the Sarafianos School of Art in Athens (1973–1975) and ceramics at the Istituto Statale d’Arte per la Ceramica in Faenza, Italy (1975–1978). Kypris is best known for his long-running Fish series, begun in 1993, in which fish serve as symbols of humanity’s exploitation of nature and the fragility of the environment. A diver for many years, Kypris draws inspiration from his direct observations of the sea, using fish imagery to express both beauty and the consequences of human cruelty. His works are created in bronze, glass, and mixed media—balancing movement, asymmetry, and harmony through masterful form and composition. Kypris’s sculptures and installations have been exhibited internationally and are held in major public and private collections across Europe, the United States, and Asia. His work bridges natural observation with philosophical reflection, revealing a poetic dialogue between humanity and the world it inhabits.
